My Story

I am Izabella Kowalska, an All-Star/Champion West Coast Swing dancer with over 16 years of experience. Dance and sports have been my passion since the age of nine. I attended an elementary school with a sports-focused curriculum, which shaped my strong movement foundation.

Before discovering West Coast Swing, I explored many sports and began my dance journey with ballroom dancing, followed by jazz dance, salsa, boogie-woogie, flamenco, and eventually West Coast Swing. I have competed in both national and international competitions and continue to grow as a dancer and performer.

I hold a Dance Teacher diploma alongside a degree in Economics. I have been teaching West Coast Swing since 2013, both locally and internationally. My goal is simple: to share this beautiful dance and help others grow in confidence, connection, and musicality.

My Journey

Dance has been part of my life since childhood. Attending a sports-focused school helped me build a strong foundation in endurance and dynamic movement. After exploring ballroom, boogie-woogie, ballet, jazz, flamenco, and Cuban salsa, I discovered West Coast Swing in 2009 — a turning point in my journey.

In 2010, I travelled to a summer camp in France, where I won both the Jack & Jill and Pro-Am categories. The prize was a free workshop ticket to Liberty Swing in the USA. As a young dancer from Hungary with just one year of West Coast Swing experience, I arrived at one of the biggest competitions in America. I was advised to enter the Novice division, I won. Nobody knew me there, but that result gave me a huge boost of confidence and opened the door to teaching opportunities and workshops across Europe. That was the moment my competitive career truly began, and I started competing regularly.

The next seven years were all about travelling, competing internationally, and learning from the best champions. Through this period, I experienced many cultures and built strong international friendships. At the same time, I continued learning and teaching weekly in Hungary alongside my full-time job and had very active dance life. This period turned out to be a great success — we began organising regular parties and workshops, and I was one of the organisers of the first two years of the Autumn Swing Challenge.

I was especially happy when I was invited to teach with Jang Widler, which gave me the opportunity to train dancers in many European countries. Later, I also taught with other outstanding teachers continued to expand my experience. Wanting to deepen my understanding of movement, sport, and teaching, I attended the Hungarian University of Sports Science to gain a stronger theoretical foundation and provide well-structured, evidence-based classes.

One of the proudest moments of my competitive career was winning the Championship at UK Champs in 2017. After winning D-Town Swing Strictly in 2022, I decided to shift my focus primarily toward training dancers rather than competing myself. I continue to educate myself regularly, staying up to date with the latest trends and integrating them into my teaching.

In 2024, I was honoured to be accepted as a Champion Jack & Jill judge. From the same year, I began teaching regular intermediate and advanced classes, including musicality, styling, competition preparation, and blues, as well as workshops in Hungary focusing on lady styling and communication. I also became a DJ and was very happy to organise a weekly West Coast Swing party every Wednesday.

In addition to dance, I practise yoga, strength training, jazz, and hip-hop. This cross-training helps me move more consciously, connect more deeply to the music, and communicate better with my partner. It also allows me to develop effective teaching methods so my students can progress faster and dance more expressively.

My Approach

Today, I dedicate my life to sharing this beautiful art form with others, with a strong focus on private classes. Dance plays a powerful role in a healthy lifestyle — it supports self-discovery, emotional expression, balance, and confidence. Most importantly, it brings joy and connects you with like-minded people.

I can’t wait to meet you on the dance floor!
